Chilliwack & Abbotsford Heat Pumps Repair And Furnace Maintainance
Heating systems are an essential part of any home, even in the somewhat milder Chilliwack climate. Winters may not drop outside temperatures below -10, but it is still cold enough that a good, functioning heating system is needed.
For residential buildings, we offer two types of HVAC heating solutions: furnaces or heat pumps. Deciding between which unit can take some effort, and Boilers, Burners, and Beyond is happy to provide consultation for you, helping you to make the right choice for your home.
Standard furnaces use a pilot flame to heat internal air, distributing it by use of a fan through ventilation ducts inside the home. Natural gas is commonly used to keep the pilot flame alight; however there are electric units available. Whereas natural gas furnaces require an open flame, that is ignited as needed for heating to warm the air, electric furnaces have a series of heating coils to heat the air. Typically electric furnaces are smaller and easier to install than gas. Gas furnaces have a risk of releasing deadly carbon monoxide into the air if not properly ventilated, electric furnaces eliminate that risk.
As an alternative to the traditional furnace, heat pumps are also an option for heating your home. A heat pump operates in a similar fashion to an air conditioner, only backwards. It draws in outside air and passes it through a vapor-compression refrigeration cycle, expelling all of the hot air produced in the process. The benefit of a heat pump, is they can also double as an air conditioner during the hot summer season. A heat pump can be either air fed or ground fed. Typically, ground unit heat pumps are more costly than standard air fed units but can also be more efficient. It is also important to remember that because heat pumps are all electric, keep in mind that they will add to your electricity bill. However, they are typically more energy efficient than furnaces, and leave a lower carbon imprint.
